Insurance is a professional-services category where community ties matter more than most. It’s often the first policy a new immigrant family buys (auto insurance for the first US car), and it stays with them through every major life event, buying a home, starting a business, having children, retiring. Albanian-owned agencies are found where the Albanian community is largest: the NYC-metro / NJ tri-state and Metro Detroit (particularly Sterling Heights, Warren, Utica, Troy, Clinton Township), and also Philadelphia, DFW, and Florida. Some families start with a captive agency (State Farm, Farm Bureau, Allstate, where you can only buy that one carrier’s policies) and later move to an independent agency (like RSN Insurance) that can shop multiple carriers at renewal. Both models are represented in this directory.Si të zgjidhni një agjent sigurimi me pronësi shqiptare
1. I pavarur kundrejt robërisë: Independent agencies (RSN, Vioana, Luxhesta Plaku) can shop multiple carriers for you, useful if you want to compare quotes without doing the shopping yourself. Captive agencies (like Farm Bureau via Ivan Gjokaj) only offer one carrier’s products but know that carrier’s policies in depth. 2. Shërbim dygjuhësh: If your parents or grandparents will be part of insurance decisions and are more comfortable in Albanian, ask upfront whether the agent or their staff speak Albanian. Do not assume: confirm before the appointment. 3. 4. Paketim: Most people save money by bundling auto + home (or auto + renters) with the same carrier. Ask any agent for a bundled quote, then compare it with the price of separate policies, because the Insurance Information Institute notes that separate policies from different companies can sometimes cost less. 5. Përkatësia në komunitet: Our directory lists ATM Insurance Solutions and Farm Bureau Ivan Gjokaj Agency as members of the Albanian American Chamber of Commerce in Metro Detroit. Community ties are a good reason to call an agent, but still check the license as described below.Kategoritë e Ngjashme të Drejtorisë

How to Verify an Insurance Agent’s License Before You Buy
Insurance is regulated state by state, so every agent and agency has to be licensed in the state where you live, not only the state where their office is. The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), the organization of state insurance regulators, puts it simply in its consumer guide: make sure the agent and the insurance company are licensed in your state. A shared language or a community referral is a good reason to call an agent. It is not a substitute for this check, and a good agent will hand you their license number without hesitation.
There are three free ways to check:
- Your state insurance department. The NAIC keeps a directory of all 56 member jurisdictions with links to each department, where you can look up an agent, find contact details or file a complaint.
- The NAIC licensee lookup. Many state departments send consumers to an online verification service run through the NAIC. Delaware’s Department of Insurance, for example, describes it as a service that lets you search and verify the status of a licensee, and redirects you to the NAIC site to do it.
- A phone call. Departments also answer by phone. The Texas Department of Insurance tells consumers to call its help line to confirm a license, review complaint history and check for disciplinary actions.
The NAIC guide also explains the letters that sometimes follow an agent’s name. They are designations earned from insurance education groups, and it is reasonable to ask an agent what theirs mean.
Where to Check Complaints Against an Agent or Insurance Company
The license tells you someone is allowed to sell. Complaint records tell you how customers have been treated. The NAIC’s Consumer Insurance Search lets you look up insurance companies and their subsidiaries, and the NAIC describes its consumer tools as a way to find information about company complaints, licenses and financial health. The search covers both companies and their subsidiaries, so the NAIC tells you to verify the exact company name as it appears in your policy, and to confirm with your state insurance department that the company is licensed there.
If something goes wrong after you buy, your state insurance department takes complaints at no cost. According to the NAIC, the department forwards your complaint to the insurer, requires a response, and then decides whether the company acted properly under the policy and state law. Before you file, gather your policy number, bills, records and a history of your communication with the insurer, write a factual account with dates, and state what resolution you want.

Agents, Brokers and How They Get Paid
The NAIC guide adds a third category to the captive and independent agents described above: the insurance broker. Captive and independent agents both represent insurance companies and receive a commission from the company for the policies they sell. A broker represents you instead, searches the market on your behalf, and generally charges a fee for that service. The NAIC suggests a broker mainly for more complex needs, such as coverage for a small business. If you run a restaurant, a contracting company or a trucking operation, ask whoever you are talking to which of the three roles they are playing and how they are paid.
Comparing Insurance Quotes the Way Consumer Agencies Recommend
The Insurance Information Institute (III) says prices vary from company to company and advises getting at least three price quotes. With a captive agent, that means calling other companies yourself. With an independent agent, ask how many carriers they actually quoted for you. The III confirms that many insurers give a discount when you buy two or more types of insurance from them, and also notes that it is still worth comparing, because separate policies from different companies can sometimes cost less than a bundle.
Price is only part of the decision. The III advises choosing an agent or company representative who takes the time to answer your questions, and suggests asking your state insurance department whether it publishes consumer complaint information by company. The Texas Department of Insurance lists warning signs that apply in any state:
- Unsolicited calls or high-pressure sales tactics.
- A price far below every other quote you received.
- A request to pay in cash, or to sign a form that still has blank spaces.
If an older relative is the policyholder, go to the appointment with them. An Albanian-speaking agent helps with the conversation, but the policy documents will still be in English, and the person signing should understand the deductible, the coverage limits and what is excluded before anything is signed.

Ask the agent for their license number, then look them up with your state insurance department. The NAIC keeps a directory linking to every state department, and many states use an online licensee lookup run through the NAIC. You can also phone the department, which can confirm the license and tell you about complaints or disciplinary actions on file.
How many insurance quotes should I get?
The Insurance Information Institute recommends getting at least three price quotes, because prices vary from company to company. Ask each agent to quote the same coverage limits and deductibles so the numbers are comparable.
