Posta e Kosoves
Overview
The provision of postal services in Kosovo dates back to 1950, when the Post, Telephone and Telegraph of Kosovo (PTT) was founded, which later operated in the system of Post and Telecom of Kosovo (PTK).
The post office of Kosovo was established and developed until the end of the eighties, at the time when the autonomy of Kosovo was suppressed by Serbia. Along with other institutions, Posta and Telegrafi i Kosova were mercilessly exploited to be completely destroyed in the war of 1998-1999. With the end of the war, exactly on August 2, 1999, the expelled employees returned to their workplaces.
Kosovo Post and Telecom started its post-war activity based on UNMIK Regulation no. 12/99. Although initially there were great difficulties from the infrastructural and material aspect, the workers showed an extraordinary commitment, managing to realize their business activity through various improvisations.
On May 31, 2000, the Independent International Post of Kosovo began its work, in which case the necessary equipment for the start of operation was provided: postage stamps, postal bags, price list of services. The International Exchange Office Prishtina LC/AO and CP was also formed, through each of which fulfilled the criteria defined by the UPU to start the exchange of postal items with the whole world.
On July 1, 2005, PTK was corporatized, while Posta e Kosova operated as a business unit within Post Telecom of Kosova Sh.A. until August 1, 2012, when by decision of the Government of Kosovo, it was established as a Central Public Enterprise.
