Mediha Gega Therapy
Overview
I specialize in working with first generation individuals and families to help you better understand yourself in relation to culture, values and expectations throughout your life cycle. I understand the unique challenges and opportunities that come with navigating the feelings of belonging and not belonging to a culture, and its impact on one’s sense of self. Using a trauma-informed and narrative approach, I help clients understand and heal from the effects of generational trauma and family enmeshment, while also helping you forge a relationship with your own unique story.
I strive to create an identity-affirming and anti-oppressive space where clients feel seen, heard and understood. My goal is to empower clients to build resilience in the face of ongoing stressors related to assimilation, negative family dynamics, cultural and gender norms.
I create an environment that allows you to bring all of yourself into the room. The client-therapist relationship is important for building trust, a key component in whether or not therapy “works.” I do tell my clients a bit about my background and my story in order to build meaning, honesty, authenticity. A strong relationship is a goal to good therapy.
